Massey and Hixon sent 107 page document on abuse at UofSC Aiken

Senator Shane Massey and Representative William “Bill” Hixon were sent a 107 page document today outlining student abuse, discrimination, and sexual assault at UofSC Aiken that have been either ignored or swept under the rug. In the document, they are asked to hold all funding for UofSC Aiken until significant changes are made at the university.

One of the major changes requested is the removal of Chancellor Daniel Heimmermann and Vice-Chancellor Ahmed Samaha. The two have shown a tremendous lack of concern for student’s well-being and safety. Emails outlining this were included in the document sent to the two local representatives.

Also included were Office of Civil Rights (OCR) with the U.S. Department of Education complaints outlining demands by an Art Professor that they perform certain “acts” in order to get a good grade in the class. To date, this professor is still employed by the University.

The document also outlines a nearly 3 year fight by a student to get their ADA Accommodations honored by the University. OCR complaints were filed after 2 years of fighting which resulted in the University being found to have violated the students civil rights.

The students who filed complaints also voiced concerns over their safety on campus which fell on deaf ears. These incidents were also outlined with email proof of the concerns.

We will report on what happens if or when the representatives respond.
